This is a fun trail. The elevation change is pretty harsh on the way up and some places are rocky and there are lots of roots so prepare for some cardio. But the downhill is really great, especially if you are in that upper beginner/lower level intermediate stage of biking. I recommend starting at Sunrise lake and taking the blue (aka Patriot’s path) to the top of the mountain and then take yellow back down. Yellow has some awesome downhill singletrack. If you want to mix things up a little take blue and then hop on orange for a bit (it meets up with blue later and its very short so dont worry about getting lost) and then take yellow down the hill. I don’t recommend getting on yellow in the beginning (near the lake) and taking it up the hill unless you are an advanced rider who is in great shape. Hope this info helps. Enjoy!

Rode this trail for the first time today with my 13 year old son. Good trail and well marked, but I would definitely print the map from the park’s web-site and carry with you. While it’s a beginner/intermediate trail, I don’t think it’s appropriate for my son’s age…just yet (even though he’s a pretty athletic kid with a decent bike). There are a lot of roots and rocks, plus a handful of steep climbs that are definitely intermediate rated and too tough for somebody learning how to mountain bike. We went left on yellow and not right at Sunrise Lake, which worked fine, as Rob suggested above (to avoid the big climb in the beginning). The end of yellow is very fun. All of the rain has also made this trail super buggy, but suspect every trail is the same way right now. Somebody at local bike store also told me today that the Six Mile Park is a faster trail (on the downhill stuff), which makes me want to check out that trail next (without my son…for now).

Good input Rob… thanks for taking the time to share it. The terrain at 6MR does not have near the elevation Lewis has so your son should love it when you finally take him. – Manny
